What I’ve been doing lately
Short film -
Just Ask daisy
Gaining the role of Production Designer on the set of Just Ask Daisy was my first official look into what can trying be achieved when building worlds. I was at the head of the amazing art department where we focused on all things set, prop and costuming. My role took me from the very early stages of reading the script and imagining my own world for this story to collaboration with the Producers, the Director and the Director of Photography and then into set dressing and actually creating this fictional world into our reality.
As Production Designer, I was responsible for developing and maintaining the film’s visual identity, ensuring all visual element were cohesive and aligned with the amazing story created by the writer.
In the early stages of my creative journey, I heavily researched the time period to create colour palettes and inspiration for stylistic choices that was then used to develop the direction of our visual storytelling. Through my collaboration with other heads of departments, I created and shared a variety of concepts with the production team to portray how I would create this world such as mood boards, floor plans and 3D models (You can see more of this on the Behind-the-scenes tab).
During pre-production, I attended several location scouting sessions to understand the space and what would be needed to effectively fill and dress it. Using that knowledge, I created my final concepts using a digital 3D model that departments could interact with and gain an insight into the layout.
Once the concepts were approved, I then moved on to sourcing our set pieces, props and costumes. We were able to sources our set through Prop Hire Brisbane and local Gold Coast Community Theatres, all keeping within the production budget.
Bump in happened over three days where we moved in all the furniture, set props and then put the final touches on in time for the camera and acting departments to be able to walk around and plan their roles within the physical space.
Once filming commenced my department and I managed continuity of set dressing and props through the shoot. I worked closely with the Director and DOP to provide extra resources needed that didn’t come up in during pre-production. Once the shoot concluded, my team worked on bumping out of the space and leaving it without a trace of our use. The same happened for our rented set, props and costumes.

Live multi-cam Broadcast - Brainstorm
I recently got the chance to produce a live broadcast of an original Children’s science quiz show. This was an amazing experience that gave me an insight to what producing looks like within the live broadcasting space. My role on this production was mainly organisation and communication. I was in charge, along with my co-producers, of organising rehearsals, logistics and contestants. We went live on YouTube at 3pm on Thursday the 22nd of October, with a runtime of exactly 15mins, this show is a great opportunity for young kids to get passionate about all things science.
